The Alabama Pro Bono Alliance, created in 2022, unites volunteer lawyer programs from across the state to expand access to free civil legal services. By coordinating efforts among legal aid providers, the Alliance helps ensure that low-income individuals can receive assistance wherever they live—including communities that have historically lacked legal resources.
Member organizations include the Montgomery Volunteer Lawyers Program, Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham, Legal Services Alabama, South Alabama Volunteer Lawyers Program, the Alabama State Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program, and the Madison County Volunteer Lawyers Program.
Collaboration is at the heart of the Alliance’s mission. Programs work together to share training, build collective capacity, and develop consistent approaches to serving clients statewide. This coordinated model strengthens the delivery of pro bono services and helps more Alabamians resolve critical civil issues such as housing, family matters, and consumer disputes. The Alliance also partners with the Alabama State Bar to recruit new volunteers, continuously growing the network of attorneys committed to pro bono service.
